HKSYU Department of History Welcomes Teachers and Students from Buddhist Mau Fung Memorial College

Exploring History at University and Pathways to Higher Education

On 21 October 2026, the Department of History at Hong Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU) welcomed teachers and students from Buddhist Mau Fung Memorial College for an exchange visit during the 2026–27 academic year. Through a programme introduction, sharing sessions and a library tour, the event introduced secondary school students to studying history at university and provided opportunities for further education and development.

Professor He Qiliang, Head of the Department of History, delivered the welcoming remarks. The visiting students were accompanied by Chan Yiu Sum, Head of Chinese History, and Yip Sze Wan, Head of the Career Planning and Further Studies Team and a teacher of Tourism and Hospitality Studies at Buddhist Mau Fung Memorial College.

Dr Agnes Suk-man PANG, Associate Head of the Department of History, introduced the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in History programme. She discussed the Education Concentration in History, Work Placement, exchange opportunities outside Hong Kong, and options for research and further study, outlining the different opportunities available to history students. The session also explored how artificial intelligence (AI), electronic resources and other digital tools can support the study of history.

Mr Fu Jiayi, an MPhil student in the Department of History, shared his experiences of studying history from a postgraduate perspective. Exchanges with university teachers and a postgraduate student helped the visitors develop a clearer understanding of historical study and research at university.

The students also toured the University Library to learn more about HKSYU’s learning environment and academic resources. The visit offered useful insights as they considered their future subject choices and options for further study.
