HKSYU Department of History –Teacher–Student Exchange Activity with Secondary School Students: Game‑Based Learning

The Department of History, Hong Kong Shue Yan University, in collaboration with the Centre for Research and Teaching in Chinese History, organised a Game‑Based Learning exchange activity with secondary school teachers and students on 13 May 2025.

The activity was hosted by Professor He Qiliang, Head of the Department of History; Dr. Pang Suk‑Man, Associate Head; and Mr. Chan Chi‑Wa, PT Visiting Assistant Professor. A total of 30 participants joined, including teachers and students from St. Mark’s School, students from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, members of the Board Game and Chess Society, History students, and representatives of the History Society.

Special thanks are extended to the Historical Game‑Based Learning Design Team:
Ms. Law Suk‑yin (Year 4, Department of History)
Mr. Lee Ka‑kuen Year 4, Department of History)
Mr. Lam Man‑ho (Year 3, Department of Chinese Language and Literature)

Drawing on what they learned in the “Pedagogy of History Teaching”course within the Education Stream of the Department of History, the team thoughtfully designed engaging, history‑themed board games. These games enabled participants to explore historical topics in an enjoyable and interactive environment, fully embodying the educational philosophy of learning through play.
