Hong Kong Shue Yan University Department of History Academic Talk

Professor Naomi Standen is a British historian specializing in medieval East Asian history. Her scholarship examines the dynamics of borderlands, identity, loyalty, and mobility in premodern Eurasia, with a particular emphasis on the Liao dynasty (907–1125) and broader global connections during the Middle Ages. Standen's work challenges traditional Eurocentric narratives by integrating archaeological, textual, and comparative approaches to explore frontiers and migrations across Asia, Eastern Europe, and beyond.
